Parasi (Ramgram) is a town and municipality and seat of Nawalparasi District in the Lumbini Zone of southern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 22,630.
It is also called Ramgram Municipality. It is a small place about 9 km from the East-West Highway, the arterial roadway of Nepal. The population of Nepal consists of mixed bag of tharus, yadavs, brahmins, chhetriyas, Vaisyas and some Muslims. Dashain, which is the main festival of Nepali people and Diwali, which is one of the main festivals of India, is celebrated here with equal zest.
Parasi is also very important place for Buddhists also because there is a stupa called Ramgram Stupa which was made in the age of Buddha and it contains one of the astudhatu of Lord Buddha. Ramgram Stupa is secret place for Buddhist and for all the Buddha and Buddhism lover.
Nawal Parasi is very nice place where you can find Ramgram Stupa 3 km from Mahespur Chauraha, it is now so well decorated where you can see all the greenries. Maheshpur touches the border near to Thutibari (India). 3 km away from the Ramgram Stupa, towards the southwest, is another temple known as Pali Bhagvati Temple dedicated to Durga Goddess.
